DFL-Supercup: Bayern Munich have limited options

DFL Supercup

                                         Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund
Venue: Westfalenstadion, Dortmund Date: 13 August

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has only "eight or nine fully-fit players" available for Wednesday's German Supercup against Borussia Dortmund.

Neither team is expected to use many of their German World Cup winners, who recently returned to training after being given extended breaks.

Bayern wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery have not travelled.

Guardiola said: "I'll talk to the players and then decide who can play and for how long."

Bayern won both the Bundesliga and German Cup last season so face Dortmund, who finished runners-up in the league and lost in the cup final.

"Dortmund are a great counter-attacking side with a very good defensive structure," said Guardiola.

Jurgen Klopp's side defeated Bayern 4-2 in last season's Supercup.

Bayern defender David Alaba said: "It's never nice to lose a final. We want to make up for it this year."
And team-mate Manuel Neuer said his side were "desperate to win".

The Germany goalkeeper added: "We're playing our big rivals. For me, matches in Dortmund are always special."

Striker Robert Lewandowski is set to make his full debut for Bayern against his former club, while fellow summer signings Juan Bernat and Sebastian Rode could also feature.

Klopp could field summer recruits Matthias Ginter, Ciro Immobile, Adrian Ramos and Ji Dong-won.

He said: "The team that wins has every reason to be happy; the team that loses doesn't have to be distraught and can tell themselves that it was just the Supercup."
