Mathieu Debuchy out for at least six weeks - Arsene Wenger

Arsenal's Mathieu Debuchy will be out for at least six weeks with an ankle injury, manager Arsene Wenger has said.

The French defender, who was carried off on a stretcher against Manchester City on Saturday, could be missing for three months if surgery is required.

Wenger said: "He has an exploration of his ankle on Friday night. They go in and look how the ligament is damaged."

Calum Chambers, 19, is expected to replace the 28-year-old for Saturday's Premier League visit to Aston Villa.

Debuchy, who joined the Gunners from Newcastle in July, had played in all seven of Arsenal's fixtures so far this season prior to his injury - including the Community Shield victory against Manchester City.

Young defender Hector Bellerin, 19, stepped in at right-back for Tuesday's 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Chambers, who signed in a £16m deal from Southampton in July, was on the bench for the game in Germany after struggling with tonsillitis, but will be fit to start at Villa Park.
