Villarreal President defends Uche from Keshi's attack

Villarreal President Fernando Roig has jumped to the defence of Ikechukwu Uche after the player was labelled as 'undisciplined' by Nigeria's coach Stephen Keshi.

The Villarreal supermo reacted angrily to reports were Nigeria's coach Stephen Keshi was quoted to have said his reasons for not including Uche in his plans for the World Cup boils down to the player's 'indiscipline' and inability to play for the team.

Roig defended the player's character and questioned the rationale of Keshi's statements about the player whose form has been instrumental the Yellow Submarines' positive run this season.

"I think the coach of Nigeria is not talking about the same Uche playing on our team," the Villarreal President said on Wednesday.

When the player himself was questioned on the comments and the certainty of missing this summer's World Cup, he was visibly disappointed and stated that he does not "understand the reasons for these statements," but refused to be drawn further into the issue

"Actually I am very surprised and rather than seeking an explanation I will not understand. It's very sad for me, but I will not get into this issue," Uche said.
